How we work

Burkett Investments is a developer and a design studio in one, led by Trey and Kyle Burkett. Every home is space-planned and drawn in house, from the architectural diagrams to the plans, then carried through with licensed architects, engineers and development partners. We choose every finish and fixture, and contract the construction to builders and specialist trades.

Hermitage House

A black board-and-batten farmhouse in Hermitage, Tennessee, redesigned over one winter: a new kitchen and butler's pantry, a primary suite addition with a sauna and a pool bath, a lighting plan for every room, and a pool, spa and pergola out back.

Principles

What every project is designed around

Our working rules, written down before the first house was found.

Design for wellness first: fitness, the outdoors, natural materials.

Modern but warm: clean lines, stone, and the house opening to the pool and patio.

The primary suite should work like a spa, and a morning should flow through it.

Hide the machinery. Panel the appliances, wire behind the TV, tuck the practical things away.

Make it feel special by defining spaces instead of opening everything up, and give the kitchen a working back-of-house.

Layer the light low and warm: under cabinets, in closets, up the shelves.
